We collect all our data to New Zealand Standard Time (NZST), so in the summer months our latest data may appear to be a little behind.
Tip: During the period of daylight savings, add 1 hour to this data to align it to Daylight Savings Time (DST).

You can either select a site from the site selector box or click any data “type” to activate the site pins on the map. For example, click the Groundwater Levels and Rainfall buttons to activate the pins for sites that measure groundwater levels or rainfall. Click a locator pin on the map to view data from that site, and then choose a measurement.
Tip: Any combination of data types can be selected or de-selected. Note that we often collect more than one measurement at each site.
Some measurements are collected using data loggers and most of these are telemetered, which means that the data is retrieved at regular intervals (as often as half hourly). Other measurements (mostly water quality data) are collected weekly, monthly or quarterly depending on the monitoring programme. These data take a little longer to get on our archive (and the website) as the data is analysed at a laboratory and then quality assured before being posted to our archive.
Our telemetered data is available on our website immediately following its retrieval. This means that we have not had a chance to verify the accuracy of the data. Limited verification is undertaken on a daily basis, however full verification is not possible until a site visit is undertaken. The data displayed on our website is often a combination of verified and unverified (quality assured) data, the quality of the data is shown using colours on the graphs, and codes in the data listings/downloads.
If you have a favourite site and measurement, you can bookmark this page in your browser to save searching for it next time.
You can choose your site by typing any part of the name into the site selector box. For example, to find the Akatarawa River at Cemetery site, you can find it by simply typing “cem”.
Tip: You can use the Site and Measurement Selectors in either the Map or Graph sections.
You can use the navigator (the small graph below the main graph) to zoom in and pan along the range of data. Drag the handles in from each end then click and move your mouse left or right to pan.
You must read and accept the terms and conditions to activate the Download buttons.
The larger the length of data collected, the longer it will take to graph, show in the Tabular Data section and to download. We have a large data range warning when the date range is set to be more than 1 year. If you are prepared to wait, click the “Proceed” button. It is not advisable to download the entire record for a particular measurement; we can manually supply large data sets on request.
Where a graph shows more than one trace (e.g. for soil moisture content) you can turn off a trace by clicking the trace legend below the graph.
